The most prepared body of the armed forces was the Spanish Army of Africa, which was the first to rebel against the republic on July 18, 1936. Generals of great specific weight in the army such as Emilio Mola, Francisco Franco, José Sanjurjo, Gonzalo Queipo de Llano and Manuel Goded participated in the conspiracy that provoked the civil war. In addition to the Military Divisions where the rebellion triumphed, the elite corps of the Army of Africa, the Legion and the Regulares actively participated in the war alongside the Francoist side. It is estimated that this came to bring together some 800,000 soldiers.
