The Popular Army of the Republic (EPR), also known as the Republican Army or Popular Army, was the name adopted by the land army of the Second Spanish Republic after the reorganization undertaken by its authorities and the dissolution of the volunteer militias that emerged in the first months of the Spanish civil war. In the Battle of the Ebro, the Republican army would reach its maximum organization and its maximum operability (even mobilizing the "fifth of the bottle", the generation of soldiers with 18 years of age). Then the international brigades would withdraw, by order of Juan Negrín, and the Francoists would stop the Ebro offensive.
