The horse is a status symbol within the North African peoples. Owning (and keeping) a horse was only within the reach of notables and caídes, those who had the resources to be able to dedicate them to having a saddle. In a way, we could compare it to today's "high-end cars". In addition, logically, it was an excellent support in wartime, facilitating a quick (and more comfortable) movement to and within the battlefield.
