The Battle of Muret and the Death of the King

Although his son remained under the guardianship of Simon de Montfort, Pedro II "The Catholic" gathered an army in his kingdoms and peninsular territories with which he crossed the Pyrenees and together with the Occitan allies laid siege to the city of Muret, where Simon de Montfort arrived. Starting from an advantageous position, his troops acted hastily and disorganized without waiting for the arrival of all the contingents. He would be killed when he was isolated by the French knights in a battle in which the king occupied a dangerous position in the second line.
